Lake Junaluska

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the lovely community of Lake Junaluska, surrounding a 200 acre lake, named after the Cherokee Chief Junaluska. The surrounding hillsides have a wide variety of houses with beautiful landscaping and gardens. The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center hosts many events for the United Methodist Church and other organizations, and there is an activity center, swimming pool and kayaks for rent. Summer weather was great and there were lots of families out and about enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

We really enjoyed taking the dogs on the 2 mile walk around the lake and playing in the park below the dam. There are a couple of docks that are open to fishing and we spent a couple of evenings casting from one dock, catching a few nice bass the first time and a couple crappie & bluegill the next.
